Logan – Review

Uau ! This was, by far, one of the most thrilling superhero movies that I have seen in a long time. I mean, everything, the action, the pace, the story, the characters, the cinematography, the moments,….and I could just go on and on and on. So, is it really the best superhero movie ever made ?

Well, for a start, in this X – Men franchise flick, the story is set in the near future where a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X somewhere on the Mexican border. Although, Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy take a turn when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.

Even though I would appreciate to see some X – Men characters, a Wolverine movie is nothing close to a boring time. Besides the chronological time wasn’t very keen on showing any of those characters since they were all extinct.

Nonetheless, let’s talk about the characters, there were only 3 main ones ( and Caliban ) – Logan ( Wolverine ), Professor X and Laura – which of whom were benefited from a great character development. All of them delivering marvelous performances accompanied by an astonishing chemistry that they shared with each other. Taking me another subject, its pace, which I might declare that it was almost perfect, moving from subtle moments to violent and gory scenes. Coming from here, the well developed character arcs. In one side you have Logan and Laura, whom are portrayed as the savage but humanized mutants that just want to get “along” with their situation and Doctor Xavier, whom just wants to enjoy the rest of life that he has left, serving as the drawback from most of the plot. And then, of course the villains, which were alright, Pierce was hateable and Dr. Rice was fine but 24 was kind of lame since you don’t want to see Wolverine vs Wolverine actually fight ( at least I don’t ). I would prefer way more to see the Pierce character to maybe turn into a mutant, and fight Logan since his character was well developed and all, but in the end he was just there to be killed by all of the children at the same time. This reminds me exactly of “Iron Man 3”, or maybe “Spiderman 3 ” or even “Marvel’s Luke Cage”, whose funny enough are all projects from Marvel.

Now, moving to the cinematography and the score, the first one is beautifully crafted gaving amazing landscapes and visuals but as far as the second one goes, is kind of forgettable and from a movie like this, the music could be another great advantage for its amazing material.

In relation to the story itself, it is played very well, again the pacing was just right and from each moment you would see an important plot point. Wether on the property in the first act, in the hotel, in the cabin house and eventually in the woods. In addition, the story was just so eye catching, you cannot have a scene where you aren’t entertained.

As far as the action is concerned, is just like in every X – Men movie when it comes to Wolverine, it is gruesome, brutal, fierce, crazy, vicious, there is just isn’t enough adjetives to describe it. And from a Wolverine movie you would expect him doing hell of powerfull moves, and yeah once again that proved to be true, however in this case the one to do those hysterical moves were Laura. She showed how a little girl ( not to mention daughter of Wolverine herself ) can kick and kill so much ass ! She was plainright uncontrollably savage when it comes to protect herself or somebody that she cares about. Probably another reason why Logan was depicted as more of a weaker Wolverine, but mainly due to his age that took his toe and he ended up dying over it ( indirectly ), an occurrence that I never expected to see. Just as Professor X. But also, I will give many many props to those seizure moments where the intensity was at it’s highest level.

Concluding, even if you aren’t too fond of superhero movies, I will say to you that this film takes somewhat of a ride to kind of let go of that genre, humanizing the world and its heroes in the process, giving a completely different feel. Though, it doesn’t escape it in a wholesome way, when Logan grabs those X – Men comic books is a great example of that hold that they have with the characters and its source material. So, in the end, you will get an entertaining story, relatable and awesome characters, violent but great action and an experience that you won’t forget that early. What a great way to end Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine ( or not ) !

But what about you, what are your thoughts after you watched this movie ? Was it a good entry in the X – Men franchise or you don’t see it as much as a superhero movie ?

I rate : 8,4 / 10
