12 Years Of Slave – Review

12-Years-A-Slave-Movie

So, here I am for another “old” movie review and this one is going for a film that I just saw today with my sister. It won 3 oscars and it is a true masterpiece !

It is based on a true story and is about Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, that is abducted and sold into slavery in the antebellum United States.

I went to see it with high expectations, and hell did it pay of, Steve Mcqueen ( the director ) surprised me again ( Shame – another great movie directed by him ). His cinematography is very realistic, beautiful and even heart racing sometimes.

This flick, truly deserved the Oscar award for best picture, I mean the cast is full with star power with outstanding performances by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lupita Nyong’o, Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender which helped make the movie so good. Specially, Fassbender who was a vicious and mad men that would do everything to make the slaves experience pain, however the other two actors that played the slaves ( Chiwetel and Lupita ) were amazing too making you sense what they are sensing in that disturbed environment.

It is full of dramatic moments, very realistic moments, sad moments and also moments where you just feel everything that the characters feel and start to get some sort of discomfort of how bad and real that atmosphere is.

In conclusion, this flick is definitely, one that you should be watching right now, it will let you know how the slavery was back in the 1840’s and 1850’s and at the same time giving you one hell of a beautiful and marvelous movie experience.

I rate : 8,4 / 10
